When life gives you cranberries…

…make cranberry juice!

I was in the fruit/vegetable aisle in the supermarket when I stumbled upon cranberries.
I purchased them thinking “maybe I’ll make my own cranberry sauce or something.” However, they sat in the fridge.
A couple weeks later I decided to use them so that they would not spoil and settled on cranberry juice.

The outcome: I think I am never buying cranberry juice again so long as I have access to cranberries!
Here is my recipe
I made two sets; one plain cranberry juice and one cran-orange.

3 1/4 cups fresh cranberries
6 cups water
1 cup brown sugar
3 juiced oranges
1. Let the cranberries simmer in the water until they pop/ burst.

2. Strain sweeten with brown sugar and let mixture cool.

3. You’re done! Bottle and refrigerate.

4. If you’re like me and you like to experiment, add the freshly squeezed orange juice to your mixture.

Besides tasting really good, there are a number of benefits to making your own juices. Here are a couple:
1. It’s fresh
2. No additives/fillers
3. You can control the amount of sweetener used
4. A tasty and convenient way to get your fruits and veggies in
5. It’s simple
Things I would change about this recipe in the future.
1. Use less brown sugar ( it wasn’t ” I’m going to go into a diabetic coma” sweet but it could do with a little less sugar)
2. Try other variations – I’ll be doing grapefruit and ginger batches next round!

3. Turn the heat down and let the berries soak. Vitamin C breaks down at temps. above 70 degrees F and I want all the Vitamin C I can get.

Have you tried making cranberry juice before? What were your results?
Happy juicing!
