What’s Wrong With My Coconut Oil?
The past two weeks have been cold in the Virgin Islands (for most of us anyway). We’ve been bundled up in blankets, hoodies and socks as evening temperatures dropped into the low 70s.
As these temperatures dropped it also caused something really strange (for us at least) to happen to our coconut oil…it has turned into a white solid.
I’ve been receiving a number of messages, and phone calls about this so I decided to write the post to put our minds at ease.
It all has to do with temperature! Coconut Oil melts at 76 degrees Fahrenheit, so here in the tropics where our average temperatures are in the 80s our coconut oil is always liquid (unless you have air conditioning and/or store it in the refrigerator).
Once the temperatures drop below 76, (which has been the case during the past few weeks) our coconut oil solidifies but its still perfectly fine.
To get your coconut oil back to its liquid state:
1. Place it in a bowl of warm water.
Avoid warming over boiling water (and/or on the stove) as you will be exposing your oil to unnecessary heat.
Have a great day friends!
