What makes a BVI Christmas
As I was strolling through Road Town, Tortola this week and observing the Christmas hurrying and scurrying around me, I got to thinking…What makes Christmas in the BVI special?
Christmas would not be Christmas in the BVI without…
1. SALE! SALE! SALE! Everywhere there are sales signs, tents and TRAILERS popping up all over the place. And suddenly almost every store now specalizes curtain and rug sales.
2. Overly stuffed ferries coming from St. Thomas overladen with papertowel, stove, fridge, car, house and no one knows what else. Makes you wonder if there is anything left for the St.Thomians to buy.
3. Fungi music! Good ole fungi music. Hearing ageless tunes like ‘Mama bake yuh Johnnycake Christmas Coming’ and ‘Ah don’t want a White Christmas’ streaming through the airways always puts me in the mood.
4. Food. Doesn’t it seem like the supply of food doubles around Christmas time? And don’t talk about the tart and the pudding.. coconut tart, guava tart hm hm! Did you know that it had mango tart too? Well mango tart and I will get a very good and indepth introduction this season.
That’s all I can think of for now. Tell me what you think makes Christmas in the BVI special.
By the way, have you ever heard the song ‘Christmas in th BVI’ by the Acapella Fellas? Great song! See if you can get their Christmas album.
So that’s all folks! Seasons Greetings and lots of love and peace this Christmas.
We forgot carolling!
