Chronicles of a Wash n Go
I really don’t know why this style is called the wash n go. It fools you into thinking …. It’s so simple anyone can do it…quickly.
A better name for it should be the “wash, set, then go.”
I did the traditional wash n go on the first day… tied a scarf around it. |
The last time I did a wash and go was around 5 years ago… When my hair was significantly shorter than it is now.
I truly understand why for me it’s a style that I stopped using years ago. Here’s my Pros and Cons list for the Style.
1. It doesn’t take a lot of time (compared to installing twists.)
2. It looks really good.
3. It adds a level of versatility to longer hair
4. It’s a quick run to style after my beach excursions (esp. when I’m going out right after)
5. Less manipulation than daily styling
1. It requires product! A whole lot of it! When you watch YouTube Vids you see some bloggers talking about only using a little bit of product (-_-)… I’m not saying they’re lying…but if I put in that little, my hair will feel like a brillo pad when it’s dried.
2. It takes a lot of time. (How does this make sense… You said the opposite above?) Well, it’s shorter than installing my usual two strand twists, but it takes more than 7 minutes to prep, prime, scrunch and shape so when I need a really quick style, this is that not convenient.
3. The aftermath is horrendous! (Did I do something wrong?) Tangles and knots for days. During the detangling process (while deep conditioning), I had the scissors handy (and in use) the entire time… I lost a lot of hair. The time not spent on styling  was tacked on to detangling.
4. It exposes your hair to the elements which can cause breakage.

Conclusion: I can get over all the cons on this list except detangling! This style is a no no for me going forward (unless of course I cut my hair).
Do you do the wash n go hairstyle? What were your experiences like?
